Australian Koala Platinum Coin
The latest design of the Australian platinum Koala depicts two hungry koalas on a eucalyptus branch superimposed over a map of Australia. The platinum Koala is extensively frosted giving it a brilliance not found on other platinum bullion coins.
Australia was the first major nation in modern times to announce its intention to produce an ounce-denominated platinum coin issue. The A$10,000 face value of the 1992 1 kilo Platinum Koala is the highest face value on any legal tender coin. The face value changed in 1993 to A$3,000.
