Australian Koala Silver Coin
The Perth Mint in Australia launched the 2007 Silver Koala as the first coin in a new series of releases depicting Australia’s most endearing marsupial. Featuring a cuddly koala clinging tenaciously to the branch of a gum tree, this coin bears the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on its obverse. The image appears on a ‘shimmer’ background, an amazing new effect developed exclusively by The Perth Mint.
Please note the image for the 2007 coin is shown below. The 2008 and 2009 images are different.
Australian Kookaburra Silver Coin
This native bird, the largest member of the kingfisher family, appears as a miniature sculpture on this very popular Australian coin. The Perth Mint incorporates a delicate proof-like frosting within the central design, making the Kookaburra distinctive among international silver coins.
The Kookaburra is the only major silver bullion coin to change its design annually. This design change, coupled with its limited mintage, has made the Kookaburra one of the most popular silver bullion coins among both collectors and silver investors.
